Full-length documentary Ballads of the Book covers a unique arts project in which the cream of Scottish contemporary music and writing talent co-operated to create a very modern work of national art.

The brainchild of Idlewild’s singer Roddy Woomble, the Ballads of the Book initiative got writers such as Alasdair Gray, Ian Rankin and Hal Duncan to provide lyrics for musicians such as Aeroeogramme and Sons and Daughters, who then wrote the accompanying music. This creative love affair resulted in an album released on March 2007 by Scotland's biggest independent record label Chemikal Underground. and the movie produced by Glasgow production company, Polite.
